The incumbent is responsible for maintaining the booking, circulation, maintenance, and repair of all equipment for the School of the Arts.  This includes but is not limited to any and all cameras, lenses audio recording equipment, lighting, grip, and electric equipment, Macintosh computers, and tablets, used by students, faculty and staff of the School of the Arts.  The incumbent is also responsible to supervise the student staff of the School of the Arts’ Production Center to ensure a positive undergraduate and graduate student experience, helping to train them on circulating equipment as necessary.  Maintains communication with student body regarding any and all missing and damaged equipment. Develops and maintains yearly physical inventory of all installed instructional equipment in labs, studios and classrooms for review by the Director of Motion Picture, Instructional and Information Technology.  Assists the Director to develop yearly capital asset repair and replacement schedule. 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:  

Cultivates and maintains an open and inviting culture as the front facing staff member for the Equipment Checkout Center.  Has superior customer service skills and is able to mitigate and foresee student production problems and advise students on best practices.

Trains users in the proper use of equipment.  Communicates clearly the current recommended digital workflows, both the benefits and drawbacks of various systems/approaches to motion picture production.

Maintains accurate database of all physical assets, including in-house and circulating equipment used by students, faculty and staff of the School of the Arts.

Maintains a complex online database of circulating inventory using an online software platform.

Assists in scheduling equipment packages for all student productions and presentations, communicating clearly with students about equipment availability.  

Supervises and trains student staff accounting for their work and Quality Control.

Oversees the daily circulation of all equipment orders and ensures that they are properly documented both at check-in and check-out.   Lifts, moves, and stores various pieces of equipment, some weighing up to 60 pounds (eg, cameras, lenses, audio recording equipment, lighting, grip, and electric equipment, computers, and tablets).

Enforces and helps to disseminate the rules and policies related to circulating equipment and the School of the Arts.

Provides technical support as requested by students, staff and faculty in technology use and techniques.  

Communicates clearly and efficiently with students about damage to circulating equipment and coordinates payment. 

Performs maintenance and minor repairs of equipment as needed, and sends equipment out-of-house for more complicated repairs. 

Performs preventative maintenance in house as needed, schedules outside work with vendors including pickup and drop off locally and checking equipment for proper function upon return.

Manages production spaces in several campus locations and ensures that all studio equipment installed or for use in the spaces is in good working order; develops and implements schedule of routine maintenance of studio facilities as requested.

Serves as liaison and contact person for all maintenance and repair work for production and rehearsal spaces in several facilities; advises students on policies and procedures for use of designated facilities. 

Minimum Qualifications:

B.A/BFA/B.S. or equivalent work experience in film/video/audio production/visual arts/sound engineering/ production design/related field. At least 2 years of related work experience. The incumbent should be well versed in production and post-production equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair including but not limited to: Arri Alexa family, Sony Venice, Cannon C-series, Cannon XF series, Sony FS5, Sony F55 Cameras, Sound Devices 744T, 702T, MixPre, and 302 audio mixers, Arri and Mole Richardson Lighting Equipment and other Grip and Electric Equipment, Macintosh computers and peripherals. The incumbent should be familiar with both the production and post-production techniques of filmmaking. The incumbent should also have an aptitude to learn new technologies as they emerge.  Excellent oral communication and customer service skills necessary. Ability to work with constant interruptions and maintain exceptional attention to detail while maintaining a positive student experience. Ability to comfortably lift up to 60lbs.
