Description & Details

The Department of Communication at Santa Clara University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in Digital Filmmaking to begin in fall 2020. The ideal candidate will be an experienced teacher and filmmaker in narrative fiction filmmaking with demonstrable knowledge about a vast range of forms, approaches, and sensibilities in all phases of the production process from screenwriting to post-production.

The selected applicant’s primary teaching load will be in introductory courses in digital filmmaking, advanced courses in her/his area of specialty, and a senior filmmaking capstone course. Secondarily, the candidate might teach courses in film & television history such as the role of cinema/film as critique on cultural values, international cinema, Latin American cinema, cinema of the African diaspora, or the representation of the experiences of people of color in cinema/television. We encourage applications from candidates who share this understanding and will contribute to the diversity of our college community, including members of historically underrepresented groups.

Candidates should demonstrate promise in creative work, including the ability to exhibit at festivals, theaters and on television, as well as evidence of successful teaching. While professional experience is desirable, candidates must have a MFA in film/television production, or a Ph.D. in communication or related field and production experience.

Applications will be accepted until 11/01/19, at which time the evaluation of applications will begin.
