POSITION: The Department of Communication at Wayne State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor on the tenure track in Digital and EmergingMedia Production. This position will begin no later than August 18, 2020. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.


The Department of Communication seeks an innovative storyteller whose creative practice intersects with a range of new and traditionalmedia platforms. Candidate should have demonstrated experience in interactive production with expertise in at least one of the following areas: post-production techniques, sound production and design; cinematography, immersive media, animation, motion graphics, or other related areas of media production.  


RESPONSIBILITIES:The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate students, have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, creative work, research, and service. The candidate will support our essential media production courses and develop new digital and/or emergent media courses that speak to their own areas of interest. The candidate will be an engaged member of the university community as well as promote diversity and inclusion. 


QUALIFICATIONS:A terminal Degree (M.F.A. or practice-based Ph.D. with extensive production experience) in New Media, Digital Media, Film/Video, or related discipline. Two years of college teaching experience is required as is an active record of media-making and peer-reviewed exhibitions and/or screenings at the national level.


DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION: The Department of Communication is housed in the College of Fine, Performing, and Communication, and offers programs leading to the BA, MA, and PhD in Communication with concentrations in media arts and studies, film, journalism, broadcast journalism, public relations, dispute resolution, and communication studies. The faculty comprises 27 full-time members who serve a student body of approximately 600 undergraduates and 175 graduate students. The Department’s facilities include a broadcast-quality video studio, specialized student computer labs, and digital video editing suites. Students in the Department participate in professional internships with nationally affiliated broadcast media, national advertising and public relations firms, major daily newspapers, and independent and commercial media production companies.
